Live Export
Australia exports millions of animals to regions such as the Middle East and South East Asia every year. Up to 100,000 animals at a time are transported in ships for as long as 3 weeks. Thousands of animals die en route each year. The animals are offloaded in countries with poor or no animal welfare laws. The animals are routinely subjected to horrific treatment in markets and at slaughterhouses in these countries. Animal Liberation ACT detailed our strong concerns about this cruel trade in our submission to the recent Senate Committee Inquiry into animal welfare standards in Australia’s live export markets. The submission is available here. Our submission was quoted in the Senate Committee’s final report (available here).
