Jumps racing
Jumps racing is a cruel form of entertainment involving horses. Jumps racing consists of many horses at a time jumping a series of 1 metre high fences at a similar speed. Jumps races are much longer in length than races on flat tracks ('flat racing') and there is therefore a much greater risk of the horses becoming tired and falling, which usually results in broken limbs and bones, or death. Jumps racing is known for its high levels of horse deaths – up to 20 times more than that of flat racing. In Australia jumps racing still occurs in Victoria and South Australia. It is not specifically banned in the ACT. For more information see www.animalsaustralia.org/issues/horse_racing.php#toc6
